With a socially distanced awards ceremony that called for an IRL red carpet, music stars sparkled in big diamonds, independent designers and colourful gemsMarch 16, 2021 By Rachael Taylor
While actors and actresses Zoomed their way into the Golden Globe Awards with varying levels of success, the music industry delivered an IRL red carpet event for the Grammys 2021, with the jewels to match.
The socially distanced music industry awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, with stars turning up in person to collect awards and deliver performances as part of the four-hour show.
The Grammys is known for delivering on the bling, and those crossing their fingers for some high jewellery moments were not disappointed. Megan Thee Stallion – who made history by becoming the first woman to win the award for Best Rap Song for Savage – wore more than 220cts of diamonds from Chopard, including a show-stopping swirling neckpiece from its Red Carpet collection.
Dua Lipa, who won Best Pop Vocal Album for Future Nostalgia, propped up the trend for colourful jewellery with stacks of rings from Ananaya and Spinelli Kilcollin that were studded with pink and blue gemstones. Miranda Lambert, winner of Best Country Album for Wildcard, also championed coloured gems with a one-of-a-kind Burmese blue-grey star sapphire cocktail ring by Katherine Jetter as well as earrings by the same designer set with tanzanite cabochons and dark-grey Tahitian pearls.
Increasingly, red-carpet jewellery moments are not just the reserve of female stars; men are increasingly seeking out well-chosen fine jewels to add personality to tuxedos. At the Grammys 2021, host Trevor Noah wore a Tiffany & Co Schlumberger Apollo brooch on his lapel, while musician Big Sean brought soft colour with 22ct gold and gemstone cabochon jewels from Loren Nicole, including a ring set with a 11.55ct mint-green garnet cabochon.
