Meet the founders of The Jewellery Futures Fund

Join Emefa Cole, Melanie Eddy and Annabel Davidson at The Jewellery Cut Live for a discussion on their plans to champion greater diversity in jewellery

October 1, 2021 By Annie North

At The Jewellery Cut Live in association with Fuli Gemstones, you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from the founders of The Jewellery Futures Fund. At an exclusive talk at the show, three of the group’s founders will come together to talk about their work to improve diversity and representation in the jewellery industry.

Having formed in 2020, The Jewellery Futures Fund was established to identify and address the challenges surrounding diversity in the jewellery industry. Led by four founders – jewellery designer and educator Melanie Eddy, designer-maker Emefa Cole, Vanity Fair jewellery editor Annabel Davidson and British Vogue jewellery and watch director Rachel Garrahan – the team has been working to change the narrative in the jewellery world.

Together, they have developed a number of initiatives and programmes that actively seek to encourage and support Black students to enrol on jewellery courses, are developing paid internships and scholarships for Black students, and are engaging with communities more widely in the jewellery sector to encourage them to take action on their own. Through advocacy, education and community, they have been working to bring these issues to the forefront of the industry, asking all to join them in their work to create more inclusive and accessible spaces.

At The Jewellery Cut Live in association with Fuli Gemstones on October 15th, 2021, at 3.30pm, Melanie, Emefa and Annabel will come together to talk about how the events of summer 2020 led them to banding together to form the fund, and how they found themselves at the centre of industry-wide change.

During this talk at the amphitheatre within The Royal Institution in London’s Mayfair, the founders will share their story so far and discuss their own reasons and experiences that led to forming The Jewellery Futures Fund. They will also offer their thoughts on what still needs to change in the industry and how that can be achieved.
