Meet Jasmine Ataullah at her workshop this weekend

The winner of The Jewellery Cut Bursary 2021 will be hosting an open workshop in Brighton, along with fellow jewellery designer Halina Mutina

December 10, 2021 By Rachael Taylor

Jasmine Ataullah, winner of The Jewellery Cut Bursary 2021, will be hosting an open workshop in Brighton this weekend, and you’re invited.

The designer, who was selected by a panel of expert judges to win this year’s coveted prize, will join forces with fellow jeweller Halina Mutina to showcase their latest creations at the workshop they share in the city’s Kemptown area. Both jewellers craft their designs by hand in the seaside town, working with gemstones and precious metals to create collectible treasures.

To attend the open workshop, you must pre-book a slot, with times available over the two days (December 11th & 12th, 2021). You can book in online by clicking here.

Jasmine’s work, which made its debut at The Jewellery Cut Live in association with Fuli Gemstones in October as part of the Bursary prize, is inspired by her British-Pakistani heritage. Using skills including lost-wax carving and push engraving, she creates pieces inspired by ancient architecture, treasures, jewels and the art of Mehndi.

Halina also finds inspiration in her cultural roots. The jeweller, who has Zambian and Polish parents, was born in Sweden and moved to England at the age of five. Motifs used within her work include tiny precious hands that hold tension-set gemstones, textures and patterns inspired by African jewellery, and serpents.

The jewellery duo moved in to a new shared studio in February, 2020, but due to the pandemic this is the first time that they have opened up their workshop to the public. “There will be loads of new jewellery from both me and Jasmine Ataullah to see,” says Halina. “It’s free entry, dog friendly and there will be cocktails, so come and say hi.”
