January 29, 2020 By The Jewellery Cut

The Jewellery Cut will be taking part in Copenhagen Fashion Week’s first ever talk on sustainable jewellery, this Friday at the city’s The Jewellery Room, alongside speakers including the Week’s chief executive.

Organised by Copenhagen Fashion Week’s jewellery exhibition The Jewellery Room – at which The Jewellery Cut will present an edit of British jewellers – this seminal event will take place at 2pm GMT (3pm local time in Copenhagen). To join the talk in person, email hello@thejewelleryroom.com and quote The Jewellery Cut.

The talk will also be streamed live on Facebook. To watch it, simply register here and log on at 2pm GMT on Friday, January 31, 2020.

The panel discussion will be led by Dana Schou, communications director at from Global Fashion Agenda, a leadership forum on sustainability in fashion that focuses on industry collaboration and public-private cooperation.

On the panel will be: Cecilie Thorsmark, the chief executive of Copenhagen Fashion Week who is aiming to make her event the most sustainable Week in the world; Guya Merkle, founder of ethical jewellery brand Vieri and gold mining charity The Earthbeat Foundation; and Rachael Taylor, co-founder of The Jewellery Cut and a jewellery journalist who has written extensively on ethics in the jewellery industry.

The talk will aim to highlight the positive actions already being taken by the jewellery industry to promote sustainability, uncover ways in which it could improve, and advise those wishing to shop for ethical jewellery on how to navigate the often murky waters of misinformation and greenwashing.

“This talk on sustainability in the jewellery industry during Copenhagen Fashion Week is the first of its kind in Copenhagen,” says The Jewellery Room co-founder Charlotte Møbjerg Ansel-Henry. “We’re launching this as we feel a responsibility and the importance of including jewellery [in the discussions on sustainability]. It’s a huge priority in the Copenhagen Fashion Week overall. They have been a great inspiration in going this way.”

The Jewellery Room exhibition has a focus on sustainability this year, and will be highlighting the ethical efforts of its exhibitors.

The jewellers taking part in The Jewellery Room as part of The Jewellery Cut’s edit are Julien Riad Sahyoun, Metier by Tomfoolery, Mocielli, myriamSOS and Ruifier. Other jewellers at the show include Pandora, Sif Jakobs and With Love Darling.
