Ellie Air teams with EC One on sustainable rings

Collection of nine rings, exclusive to the London jeweller, have been handcrafted in Dorset with Fairmined gold and ethically sourced gems

Ellie Air has teamed up with London jeweller EC One to create an exclusive collection of one-of-a-kind rings that have been made using ethical materials.

Ellie Air founder Lauren Rowden worked closely with EC One co-founder Alison Skeates to design the ring collection, which is being sold at the jeweller’s store on Exmouth Market as well as online. The rings – a mix of solitaires set with ethical gems in unusual cuts and colours and minimalist gold bands – carries all the hallmarks of the Ellie Air brand, including star settings and engravings, as well as updates of existing designs with exclusive new gemstone combinations.

“EC One is a store dear to my heart and has stocked Ellie Air for almost five years,” says Rowden. “During that time we’ve gone from selling Alchimia, the first silver Ellie Air collection, to high end one-of-a-kind pieces as the brand has moved towards bespoke. This collection is to be seen as something you can mix and match from – choose a band or a couple, pair them with your favourite of the solitaires and you’ve got yourself a neat stack – whether that’s for an alternative bride or the perfect gift to empower yourself with.”

The collection of nine rings has been crafted by hand at the Ellie Air studio in Dorset using Fairmined gold, Canadian diamonds and fairly traded coloured gemstones from Sri Lanka, Australia and Africa. All the precious metal and the gemstones have been bought from sources with fully transparent supply chains, ensuring that they have been mined responsibly, workers have been fairly paid and mining communities are supported.

“I’ve always made sure the studio and brand as a whole are as sustainable and ethical as possible,” says Rowden. “Though it’s not something I want to use as a USP, I want to keep on going with this mission to educate consumers and also help other jewellery brands who want to embark on the same path. I will continue to help make a difference, from having a small carbon footprint to donating money to charities around the world. Ethics and sustainability are finally getting the attention they deserve and I feel that creating a collection that encompasses all of this together with sparkling rings to treat yourself with is a true honour for me.”
