Indian jewellery has a rich history, from the diamonds of Golconda and bejewelled turbans of the Maharajas to its influence on Cartier and Van Cleef’s high jewellery in the 1920s. Its influence continues to shape the jewellery world, and there is a new generation of jewellers reinterpreting its motifs and techniques for a contemporary audience.

Join Central Saint Martins jewellery course leader Simon Fraser at The Jewellery Cut Live as he leads a discussion on the history and evolution of Indian jewellery, its place in the modern world and how its legacy is shaping trends. Discover how today’s fashionable jewellery obsessions such as enamel, carved gemstones and face and body jewellery can be traced back to India.

Joining him for this panel discussion will be Sameer Liliani, EMEA director of global jewellery brand Amrapali; designer Ama Dhami, who is the recipient of this year’s The Jewellery Cut Live bursary; and jewellery designer Akansha Sethi, who is also taking part in this season’s edition of the show with her brand AS by Akansha Sethi.

The lively and insightful discussion will be followed by a Q&A session, allowing you to put your own questions to the panel and give your thoughts on the evolution of Indian jewels and their continuing influence over contemporary design.

The talk will take place at 4.30pm on Monday, 16th September, 2019. It will be held on an exclusive private balcony, overlooking historic Regent Street, within the Pompadour Ballroom at Hotel Cafe Royal. The talk is part of boutique contemporary jewellery show The Jewellery Cut Live, held in the same venue on September 15th & 16th, 2019, during London Fashion Week.

Tickets to this intimate session cost £20 and are limited, with only 40 places available. Complimentary champagne and refreshments served as part of the experience, and tickets also give access to the rest of the show.
