Atelier Swarovski has pledged its allegiance to lab-grown diamonds and gemstones with the opening of a fine jewellery concession in luxury London department store Harvey Nichols.
The Swarovski brand is famed for its collaborations with fashion designers to create bold jewels that glitter with its crystals, but Atelier Swarovski has begun to move in a new direction with the launch of fine jewellery collections.
With a nod to what the brand has dubbed “conscious luxury”, Atelier Swarovski’s fine jewellery collections use Fairtrade or recycled gold and laboratory-grown diamonds and gemstones from its own Swarovski Created line, as well as ethically sourced mined coloured gemstones. And to add a twist of gravitas to these collections, which range in price from £379 to £22,295, it has also enlisted the help of jewellery designers rather than fashion designs to create the jewels.
British jewellery designer Stephen Webster has designed an Atelier Swarovski line called Double Diamond. The name of the collection refers to the use of lab-grown diamonds, set into yellow gold jewellery that takes the structural form of an octahedron, the shape rough diamonds often take that makes them ideal for cutting. Some designs in the collection feature rounds of rose quartz, trapped within octahedron-shaped cages of gold.
New York-based jeweller Paige Novick has also created a collection titled Arc-en-Ciel using lab-grown gemstones for Atelier Swarovski. Inspired by the arc of a rainbow, her jewels showcase her signature sensuous swirls, with white, yellow and rose gold studded with Swarovski Created lab-grown diamonds. Colour is also a key element, with ethically sourced topaz in shades of violet, green, yellow, blue, red and pink.
The third guest designer to join the Atelier Swarovski fine jewellery collective is not a designer by trade, but an actress. Penélope Cruz has worked with Atelier Swarovski to create a collection of fine jewels that reflects all her experience on the red carpet by capturing that Old Hollywood spirit in white gold set with mined white topaz, Swarovski Create lab-grown diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
The Atelier Swarovski concession in Harvey Nichols takes its cues from nature and light, with brilliant white displays accented with marble, gold and green – a nod to the sustainability element of the collections.
“We are delighted to partner with Harvey Nichols to create a stunning home in Knightsbridge for our Atelier Swarovski fine jewellery collections,” said Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski executive board. “It is exciting to bring our beautiful collaborations with Stephen Webster, Paige Novick and Penélope Cruz to London, and to showcase conscious luxury through our fine jewellery lines handcrafted with Swarovski Created Diamonds, genuine and created gemstones and responsibly sourced gold.”
