An ode to the lights of Baroque Rome

Roberto Coin’s new Roman Barocco jewellery collection uses woven gold and diamonds to reimagine the architecture of Italy’s capital

March 13, 2019 By The Jewellery Cut

The latest collection from luxury jewellery brand Roberto Coin celebrates the architecture of Rome, and builds on its Barocco line of jewels that pay homage to the Baroque period.

The Roman Barocco collection takes its cues from the buildings of the city, including the iconic Italian cupolas – decorative domes that cap the city’s buildings and dot the skyline. It transforms these architectural hallmarks into precious jewels using woven gold wire, a technique that is synonymous with the wider Roberto Coin Barocco collections.

Diamonds have also been used on some pieces to create a play of light to reference the light shows that were popular in the Baroque period of the mid 17th and early 18th centuries.

“The Roman Barocco collection stems from the classic technique of Roberto Coin’s Barocco line – inspired by the beauty of the Italian city that the emperor Adrian consecrated as the Eternal City, cradle of all western culture,” said Roberto Coin.
