The Jewellery Cut Live, which will return for its third season next month with a two-day jewellery show during London Fashion Week, has announced Ama Dhami as the winner of its latest bursary scheme that supports emerging jewellers by gifting them free participation in the show.

Jewellery designer Ama Dhami , who founded her namesake brand last year, is of dual British and Indian heritage; a legacy that informs and inspires her work. Prior to the launch of her brand, Dhami spent 10 years in banking, during which time she sat on the board of British luxury multichannel retailer MatchesFashion.

Her exposure to inspiring fashion companies through her banking career fuelled Dhami’s passion for creativity and design, and she decided to leave finance in pursuit of a more fulfilling creative career. This led her to study jewellery design at Central Saint Martins and gemmology at the Gemological Institute of America, where she qualified as a gemmologist.

Ama Dhami is a luxury jewellery brand, offering 18ct gold designs decorated with champlevé enamel and diamonds. Ancient Indian jewellers would describe her attention to detail and love for precious gemstones as maharatnani, a quality that is felt in every creation, where heritage and craft are given centre stage.

“I’m honoured to be selected as this season’s The Jewellery Cut Live bursary winner,” says Dhami. “It will give me an excellent platform to showcase my debut collection of contemporary jewels that have been inspired by 16th Century Mughal architecture. My passion for detail has characterised every aspect of my jewellery, even the details that may be hidden from view, such as the tiny enamel chevrons added to the reverse side of my pieces. For me, the details really do make the design.”

Ama Dhami is the second recipient of The Jewellery Cut Live Bursary Award. The scheme launched last season, in February 2019, with Kelly Seymour of silver jewellery brand Cult of Youth being selected for the honour.

“At The Jewellery Cut we are passionate about shining a light onto the most sensational jewellery talent that Britain has to offer, and as part of that we have pledged to financially support a designer each season that we feel has the potential to do great things,” says The Jewellery Cut co-founder Rachael Taylor. “As soon as I saw Ama Dhami’s debut collection, which she showed me as a guest at our first ever The Jewellery Cut Live event, I was entranced. The designs are beautiful and utterly wearable, and Ama’s pursuit of perfect craftsmanship is almost obsessive in its attention to detail. I also think it’s a very exciting moment for contemporary Indian jewellery designers successfully managing to blend their heritage with modern styles to speak to a whole new generation. This has become a real trend in recent years, and is just another reason why I find Ama’s work so exciting.”

The Jewellery Cut Live will take place on September 15^th & 16^th, 2019, within the Pompadour Room in Hotel Café Royal on London’s Regent Street. The showcase, which is open to all, will host more than 20 jewellery brands as well as a series of talks and mini events. All guests must register for free tickets through Eventbrite.
