A jewellery design masterclass with Alex Monroe

Join the world-famous British designer as he gives an in-depth insight into his design process, and how he captures nature and transforms it into gold

February 5, 2020 By Rachael Taylor

Each season at The Jewellery Cut Live, we ask a leading designer to give our guests a masterclass in jewellery design. This time, we are delighted to announce that our star designer will be Alex Monroe.

Over the past 30 years, the British jewellery designer has built a worldwide following with a cornucopia of delicate jewels inspired by nature and nostalgia. Perhaps most famous for its bee pendants, Alex Monroe has captured the imagination of jewellery lovers with quirky precious treasures, which are sold in design hotspots across the globe as well as the brand’s two London boutiques.

Monroe is a champion of British craftmanship – all of his jewels are made in the UK – as well as sustainability. He has also embarked on many collaborations, including a collection created with shoe designer Sophia Webster, and tapped into pop culture with lines of jewels inspired by Peter Pan, the Natural History Museum and BBC TV show Doctor Who.

There is also now an Alex Monroe jewellery school, where fans of the brand can head to its workshops to learn how to create their own stacking bangles or floral alphabet necklaces.

At his evening talk at The Jewellery Cut Live on February 17th, 2020 – A jewellery design masterclass with Alex Monroe – the designer will share insights into his design process. Guests will be taken into Monroe’s nature-inspired world as he discusses finding inspiration, planning designs and the craftsmanship required to turn his ideas into gold.

“I’m really pleased to be asked to talk about my creative process from concept to collection,” says Monroe. “It’s inevitably a bumpy ride, and unpredictable, but there are always common threads that run through the journey. And then the pieces take on their own lives through marketing, selling and the wearer.”

A jewellery design masterclass with Alex Monroe will take place at 7pm on February 17th, 2020, at The Jewellery Cut Live, held at The Royal Institution, 21 Albermarle Street, Mayfair, London, W1S 4BS. Early bird tickets start at £10 (£20 thereafter). Book your ticket here
